About Sandra

Sandra Villella is a naturopath and herbalist. She graduated from the Southern School of Natural Therapies as a naturopath in 1993. Sandra practised at Melbourne Holistic Health Group (formerly Clifton Hill Natural Health Centre) for 18 years before moving her practice around the corner to her current location.

In 1999 Sandra complemented her practice as a naturopath by completing a Masters of Applied Science in Acupuncture. Her minor thesis was on the subject of the effects of acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine on infertility caused by polycystic ovarian syndrome.

Sandra has a family naturopathic practice. She consults with young children, teenagers, men and women of all ages up to the elderly. Sandra has a special interest in the management of women's health from puberty; through the reproductive years and pregnancy; and a particular interest in women's health during the peri-menopausal years.

She is a consultant naturopath at Jean Hailes for Women’s Health, a national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving the knowledge of women’s health throughout the various stages of their lives, and to provide a trusted world-class health service for women. Jean Hailes for women’s Health is regarded throughout Australia as a leader in women's healthcare and Sandra has been working as part of their team since 1999. Amongst her many roles there, she conducts consultations at the Jean Hailes Medical Centre for Women, and is available for appointment at Jean Hailes at Epworth Freemasons. As part of the Jean Hailes' team, she presents seminars to the general public on women's health and also educates GPs and other health professionals throughout Australia on the evidence-based and traditional naturopathic management for many women’s health conditions including menopause, PCOS. PMS and preconception care. In her role as Clinical Leader with Jean Hailes for Women’s health Translation, Education and Communication (TEC) unit, Sandra is involved  with the development of educational resources and information for the website for use by the general public and health professionals and creates simple health-focused recipes with educational messages which are published in the Jean Hailes national magazine bi-annually.

Through her work, Sandra has developed working relationships with several health professionals including medical specialists and GPs, whom refer patients to her, and to whom she can comfortably refer patients to. This collaborative health care approach is beneficial for patients allowing for a more comprehensive management and supports them in their choice to access natural therapies alongside medical treatment.

Sandra's love of food inspires her to give advice to her patients of all ages, from toddlers to the busy professional, on simple ways to incorporate good nutrition as part of their treatment or to better their health.

Throughout her professional career, Sandra has been actively involved in the education of the general public to improve the awareness of the value of a healthy lifestyle and information on complementary medicine. She has lectured to a number of groups in this capacity. She is also a popular speaker at naturopathic and herbal medicine conferences and has presented papers around Australia and in New Zealand.

Sandra is a Fellow of the naturopaths & herbalists association of Australia (NHAA).
Sandra lectures final year students at Endeavour College in Advanced Herbal Medicine and Clinical Practicum.
